this class will be the bane of your existence. professor delivers the content in the most monotone voice possible and will suck any excitement you have for the subject of your body like a dementor. it really seems like she holds a grudge against her students. she doesn't like us and we sure don't like her 💀
Came into this class thinking it was hard after reading her review's here, but she is actually not that bad, reminds me a bit of highschool. This is a first year new course which could be why, but idk. No exams, No tests, just need to build on knowledge The TA is even nice and always accessible
HIS101: Does not give positive feedback, ever. Her feedback always felt passive aggressive as if I can never live up to her standards. Felt very discouraged to attend class despite the mandatory attendance, it was genuinely so miserable. Her assignments barely have any instructions. Not surprised her students prefer her TA over her
insane amount of readings for a course that's mainly advertised as an elective. very dry lectures, my biggest peeve is just lecture engagement, at times she does ask questions to the class, it's overall a very boring dense lecture to go with long dense readings. the participation assignments are cool though
Her lectures are heavy, make sure its the first class of the day. tests are easy if you study
Was super excited about Ancient Egypt and I've learned so much so far. Attend every class or you will miss information because nothing is posted and I would recommend voice recording lectures as info is given quickly. Study guides and assignment outlines are helpful, study a lot/get feedback and you will do well. Dr. Li is passionate/a great prof!
For anyone who is looking to take this course that is not interested in the topic, dont take it. The prof talks over lots of dense material, with good reason, she is trying to cram in 10000 years of history into 1 course. Its alot. I personally loved the topic, lecture structure (didnt post and you need to acc pay attention), but it is HARD
the material is super interesting and the sources the prof uses seem pretty good but i wouldnt recommend because the prof just genuinely seems like a miserable person
extremely long and disorganized lectures. doesn't post the slides and talks too fast in class. hard to pay attention because it's so boring. extremely difficult grader and expects too much
biggest issue with this course is that it's being taught as an art history course even though nowhere does it say in course descriptions etc, that it is one. prof seems to not really care about students, and lectures are long and boring. would not recommend.
