He's a great professor and very thorough. I honestly feel bad for him it must be frustrating teaching an upper level course to students who mostly just want to fulfill a requirement. I kind of wish he taught music outside academia because pushing back against AI will probably wear him out. Very kind person though, class content is enjoyable.

He is very nice. I had him for then entire semester, he's chill and always try to get friendly and close with the student. A lot of students just ignore his effort, I'd say if you can handle homework he's pretty good. The homework he gives aren't even that bad, he gives 100% if you completed it, no matter if it's wrong or right so it's easy mark.

Decent funny guy, you can tell his course is well built. However, his class are so difficult and an insane amount of readings. Term paper is also unnecessarily hard and complicated for a lower level liberal class.

gives a mind blowing amount of reading assignment a week, You have to read 30 pages of history about music which absolutely destroys my brain as it takes more work than the major course. If you are planning to select this course because you like singing, trust me don't. The song choice definitely doesn't suit your taste and you wouldn't wanna sing.

Have never been so baffled in my entire life. Enrolled thinking we'd only listen to songs, review and write general analysis, but no. Felt as if it was such a picky and meticulous course for being an elective. If I knew this before applying I would've at least applied for engineering course WILLINGLY, then I would've known what I should've expected

The professor is professional, and dedicates a lot of time to his lectures. I just want to warn people, this class is not a GPA booster in my opinion. This class mainly focuses on cultures, so prepare yourself for learning a bunch of foreign words, foreign songs, & hard listening quizzes. It takes a lot of effort and all the midterms were in person

He really knows his stuff and it's clear he's very passionate about the subject so that was refreshing!! Graded by multiple assignments and kind of a hard marker but he's very specific about what he wants. He's heavy on the lectures and often goes over class time :/ if he says it's gonna be on the test, it WILL be on the test.

You can tell Gerry definitely loves doing what he does in this class. He has a funny sense of humour and will crack up some jokes every now and then. Something to note is that he assigns a lot of weekly assignments. Other than that the course content is pretty easy if you're engaged in it and make sure you attend the singing classes!!
