Don't bother taking this class. The lecture material that she posts online is a joke. As if to taunt you, half the material in the lecture slides is left out/completely blank. The idea is that you should come to class, but miss one class, and youre left researching random topics to compensate for an entire lecture of just titles and ZERO material
I don't get all the bad reviews for Kathleen. You go to class and fill in the powerpoint slides, and that is the content that is on the midterm and final exam (plus some textbook stuff). She's a super nice prof and if you need help you can go in during her office hours. Her lectures can be discussion heavy, but free marks for participation.
Her feedback and the way she explains and lectures are not clear, which can also be seen on the essays because she does not give you a clear grading rubric. She also talks very quietly and is hard to hear her some times. Her lectures are also very boring and she likes to stretch the lecture long and doesnt get to the point. Get a different prof.
Tests (midterm/final) are only out of 30 marks yet worth 30% so if you get one mark off it drastically affects your grade. Also m/c can be a little ridiculous with options from a) to g). She marks papers hard, I dont know anyone in my class who got over a 75 on the major essay. Some participation marks and you must read the textbook to succeed.
She's a very nice person to have as a prof. There were quite a few papers to do and also in class activities that she does for participation marks. Her lectures are straightforward and she often asks for participation. It's okay not to participate but she tries to engage people. Midterm and final were straightforward, easy and short.
Overall, a super nice lady! A hard marker for sure. Had another paper almost due every other week. Is lenient with extensions. Usually never finished lectures/ppts on time. Can sometimes hop on you with opinions when you participate. Multiple short papers, one long, 2 exams. Tough questions. Accentuates the little parts on exams. Very helpful tho
Kathleen is generally a nice prof, but often uses interrogative techniques to refute student comments during lectures. Though we do not usually finish the lecture ppts because of "talkative" students that feed off of her questions for hours. Which is why you have to read the textbook to do well. Average marker, average exams.
Number one tip for this class is to ATTEND! Her online ppt notes are pretty much in skeleton form so you need to go to class to fill them in. The book does not highlight the main points, so you need to read everything to find the important info. Fair marker. Tests are multiple choice and short answer.
Love her! Class was very interesting. I was going to switch classes because of the reviews, but she really is awesome. No essays yay! Really helpful, tests are fair, just study. I would take another class again with Kathleen if I could.
I have not completed this class yet so I don't know my mark. So far so good though. She is helpful, knows her content, likes class participation. A few little papers and 2 test MC, short answer. So far, I think she is a fair marker. Tests were not easy but fair.
