This is a very wise man with a brilliant career behind him who brings real knowledge to the lectures. He has the calmest demeanor of any professor I have ever met. I would gladly take his courses, and happily recommend him. It was a pleasure learning with him, we learned a lot due to his great depth of knowledge. TMU is lucky to have him.
Dr. Atkinson is clearly passionate about this course and he wants his students to succeed. He responds to emails quickly and when students can't come to his office hours due to schedule conflicts, he is willing to arrange other meeting times. His exams are mostly based on the textbook. If you study it well, you'll get an A.
Tests were primarily based on textbook material which made lectures almost useless. Lectures were very boring and dull. He probably had the worst powerpoint presentations I've ever seen from a professor. The tests were fair but I feel like the marking was a bit harsh, especially for the final assignment.
Lectures were very long winded and dragged on. Tests were difficult as there was a heavy emphasis on textbook material, making it so that one had to remember very specific lines and tidbits of info (ex. etiology, small statistics, etc). Paper was somewhat easy but could've benefited from clearer guidelines
Great Professor. His lectures were a little unorthodox but I find them very interesting, and they helped with my ability to learn. If you attend lecture and read the text you will definitely end with an A or A+. Very clear and approachable way of teaching, just don't expect the typical lecture style. Highly recommend.
