Jill is genuinely such a lovely person, but if she takes a liking to you, prepare to be pushed to your absolute limit. She'll hound you for assignments and give you pep talks that feel more like lectures. Obviously, this all comes out of a place of wanting to see you succeed, but it can definitely feel overwhelming.
Jill is super nice! I enjoyed her class and she taught me a lot. She is a tough marker and a tough critique but it is for your own good. She is reasonable and understanding. I hope to be in her class again!
Just to give you an idea, My friends and I gave her the nick name "Silly Jilly" because we needed some way to take out our frustrations. Im sure she's great at her job outside of TMU but she's a horrendous professor. Unclear guidelines, Insanely strict class policies, and such a hard grader.
Though she is a tough grader if you follow her guidelines you will do well in the class.
Jill is kind and cares about the content she teaches, but her feedback is typically unclear and she will dock marks for very minimal things. For all future projects I would directly go to her for feedback at least twice before submitting assignments which helped my grades improve. For her, an 85 is great and anything above is almost unattainable.
I took Jill's classes at Centennial College. She's no doubt a tough instructor, who you'll either love or hate. But Jill's feedback is both helpful in making your writing more professional, but it's also necessary to learn how Journalism is in the real world. Her knowledge and expertise made a major improvement on my writing and confidence.
She's a tough marker, but she delivered really solid lectures. Make sure you clarify specific assignment criteria ahead of time because there were some mix ups. Overall she ran a friendly fun media writing class and I genuinely feel like I've learned more.
No matter what you do, nothing is enough and meets her standards. For a group project, we chose someone from CBC to represent our brand. Since she works at CBC she said CBC contract "wouldn't allow them" but we were not informed of this before hand and other sections didn't have this rule. Course content is dated and traditional and NEEDS a change,
She's extremely lovely and well-spoken, her lectures are interesting and useful, and she doesn't just hand out grades willy nilly, but marks assignments realistically with constructive feedback so that you can improve. I highly recommend taking a class with Jill!
Most of the criticism you've heard about Jill is regrettably true. While I don't think she is at all a bad or rude person, she made 103 almost insufferable. The various group projects are marked very hard and her feedback is often vague. Try to get a transfer if possible.
