Alan, is a students professor. Meaning he goes above an beyond to ensure the student is well studied. He is very approachable and knowledgeable.
Heavily theoretical. The course itself has so much information that it's tough to catch up on everything. The final exam was worth 60%. Instead, 2 midterms and 1 final would be better. Alan is amazing otherwise, he's knowledgeable about the course and available for help, outside the class.
Alan was a really good professor. He started off a bit boring, and hard to listen to, but he grew on me as the semester unfolded. As long as you can get over his slight monotone voice (although he does put an effort into putting jokes, and expression) his lectures are interesting, and testing is far.
Very passionate about the subject and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Never felt lost in his class, despite the volume of information. Tests are a bit tough but totally fair. He goes through lots of examples in class on how to solve the more challenging problems. Visual aids (especially atomic models) were a nice touch.
I have had the privilege to be taught by Alan, and he is a professor that truly cares of his students' knowledge. He will come early, stay late, all in an attempt to make sure that students benefit from taking his course. If you think Don cared, Alan shares his same morale. Tests aren't easy/hard. He will prepare you for them.
If you actually want to learn something, this is the class for you . You might need to put in a little extra work (i.e show up to class, do some homework) to get a good mark, but in the end it's worth it. Extremely knowledgable prof, definitely knows what he's talking about, and also very approachable. Take this prof if you can.
Alan is extremely knowledgeable and explains concepts clearly and with practical examples. He has taken time to prepare and has thought carefully about how to teach the subject. He is easy to approach and answers questions without judgment. I am thankful I had him as a prof for one of the most important courses in my education. He is also humurous.
hard tests and hard marker !
