I'm not sure if you're reading these ratings Dr. Coe, but your words, your amazing lectures and your lesson impacted me in ways I wouldn't have thought. If I go to be a good physician, a huge part of it was because of you and this course.
I was initially scared to take BMS760 because of these reviews. However, Dr. Coe is a cool and easy professor, although quiz questions can be a little tricky at times.
Great prof. Cons: Felt like this course should be for first years, added little value to fourth years. Most of the lectures were repeated info. Weirdly strong emphasis on Indigenous science. Pros: Great effort to be engaging (especially the misinfo comp). Knew the material well. Really passionate about the course topics and its importance for us.
She was a bit rude, but the course itself was completely useless. Its a mandatory 4th yr class that teaches you common sense, and takes away from any prerequisites you would need to take in post-grad. Tutorial is a significant part of your grade, so choose your TA wisely. Tests were not hard - the whole class just felt like a waste of time.
maybe it wasnt the prof and it was the course because I hated this class. the most useless course ever. all the content is common sense but somehow the quizzes were hard? good part is most of the mark (55%) comes from the TA so choose ur TA wisely
It's ridiculous how she has an entire class trying to educate students to become critical thinkers while she herself isn't one whatsoever. Class is absolutely useless and of no benefit. Rather than trying to teach student how to become critical thinkers, she tries to push her agenda onto them. If you dare disagree with her, ooof gl.
Pretty good course, engaging lectures too. Very important though: choose your TA wisely since 30% comes from tutorial participation.
My time with Dr. Coe in 2022 still affects me today. At first, I thought she was a kind lecturer, but as the semester progressed, it became clear her humour was often at the expense of students, and hurtful. Me and my fellow female students left feeling disheartened about a career in science, ironic as she told us she champions women in STEM.
This was hands down the best course I had in undergrad. I wish we had courses like this in 1st or 2nd year. She is caring, understanding and hilarious. I attended every single lecture and did better than all the other students who didn't. You don't just memorize content, you actually gain a range of skills. IMP!! ALWAYS SHOW UP TO CLASS. 5 stars!!!
Grade is calculated by 3 assignments in a 10/35/35, which is ridiculous because they're all papers. Nice lady, but you learn nothing of interest or importance in class (which is mundane to begin with). Tutorial is all you need. There are criteria deliberately omitted from the rubrics that are only mentioned in class, just to get people to attend.
