This Professor is very straightforward and rude. He is very picky about lockdown respondus and will send students to academic integrity if the video of your workspace does not show EVERYTHING. I had asked him a question without reading one of the documents (my mistake) and replied with a snarky comment.
Excellent professor. Amaxing quality. Lots of interesting readings. Not for students looking for kindergarten classes. TMU is a university.
This is NOT an easy class AT ALL! This professor is a tough grader; without a philosophy background, this course isn't for you. They're open to extensions but require a non-disclosure contract. Their passion for philosophy is clear, but it can take the fun and learning out of the course for students who lack prior experience in the subject.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. if you're looking for a bird course, look elsewhere. Prof is passionate, which is great, he is a big yapper too. lots of reading, more than your usual classes. if you aren't a huge philosophy fan or a big yapper yourself, don't take this class.
I think he is highly motivated and enthusiastic but did not appreciate the high word counts for small ask questions. Additionally, I found the citing requirements odd (ie. citing for quote analysis, questions about a reading, lecture, etc.). Most of my other phil classes don't require that since what you learn/read should be what you respond with.
Not an easy course but it has matched my expectations for a higher-level course. I would recommend a background in philosophy + taking courses at your level, as I think that is one of the reasons why the course and the professor are rated lower than I would say was appropriate. He is highly motivated, passionate and truly cares about his feedback.
As others note, this is not an easy course. However, the course completely changed the way I think and I am so grateful I took it.
This professor has so much passion for philosophy which is very well respected. However, the class feels so heavy and his tough and very much detailed grading makes it almost impossible to get a high mark. Get ready to write and read A LOT every single week for marks that will be worth almost nothing at the end, and you might receive a low mark.
I had to drop this class because it was SO difficult. If you decide to take on this course then be prepared to read pages and pages and pages of required readings. This prof has a true passion for philosophy but this can come at a disadvantage to students who don't have an exceptionally strong point to this topic. He is such a hard marker, as well.
Readings are extremely heavy in content and straight up information overload. We're talking upwards of 20, 30+ pages of readings. The material itself is also extremely abstract. Not really a good course to take unless you're ready for a GPA hit. Do not recommend taking CPHL550 at all.
