He's a great teacher who really knows what he's talking about in terms of the content and he's very enthusiastic about it. Together, those things made this a really entertaining class. He was also always very open to questions and conversation about the weekly lectures.
He is an incredible teacher. Insanely smart, he knows what he is talking about. I had absolutely no problem with his accent, it was in fact very nice to hear. Always answers emails right away and is super helpful. 10/10
Required readings were important but there was only one every week. Lectures were super valuable - he encourages participation and asking questions a lot. Very personable and makes it super clear that your success and learning is his top priority.
Gervais really made me step up my academic game, which I needed. I learned so much from the courses I took with him and he really helped me streamline my approach to research. If you work hard and put in the effort, his courses are well worth it! The Ryerson community is lucky to have him.
I really enjoyed my class with Gervais. I found his class to be quite easy even with my lack of knowledge of photography. His lectures were long and boring sometimes and nothing on his slides about what he was talking about besides the photo being discussed but it helped me pay attention more. His accent is a little hard to understand sometimes tho
I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. That's Mark Twain. I suggest you hold Mark's words close when taking Scrooge McFancypants' class. Don't let the bullying and posturing deter you from further study. This is one semester of your life. You got this. Regurgitate his lame musings, write succinctly and buy boxed wine. PEACE.
Terrible teacher. He is very hard to understand. Unprofessional. Long lectures that are boring.
Ryerson is terribly lucky to have Gervais. His lectures gush with intellectual content, though always clear and concise. No tricks, no traps in the assignments, just the (fair) expectation that you respond with interest and rigour. Take any of his courses, he's brilliant. And he's hot.
