Very knowledgeable and always happy to speak about the material covered. Lectures were purely for students' own independent learning - assignments were separate, but simple enough if you read/watched/played the texts. Also he let me interview him. That was nice.
I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Boyd gives very interesting books to read and there is even a video game to play! The papers were far from your typical close reading/essay style which was very refreshing. Also was very accommodating when I needed it. Make sure to stay on top of readings because there was a discussion board each week on them!
He's a great professor and a great conversationalist. His interest in digital humanities and consequently game studies intersect with my own research interests as a graduate student. Many times I find myself simply desiring a conversation with him, to get his perspective and opinion about game studies or other academic areas.
Dr. Boyd is an okay professor. His research interests are bit dry which makes his selection of reading materials dry as well. He's also not always very clear in his instructions and he doesn't lecture too well. But he is nice and accessible outside of class. Except for his habit of adding extra readings during the busiest time of the semester!
Jason Boyd is a good prof and students who say otherwise are just unwilling to do the work assigned and get engaged. OFC participation is mandatory: it's a practical U level course. He is very passionate about the topic and assigned GAMES as part of the reading material. However, his actual lecturing can be a bit dry and material heavy at times.
man talks for a whole 2 hours without slides and expects people to actually listen for the whole time. Lecture is literally him walking around and talking to himself
I can't emphasize how surprisingly easy his 921 course is. The only reason you have to show up to class is because of the weekly assignments that must be submitted in person at the end. Boyd is a good lecturer (and person) but sometimes I wish he delved into the topics a little more (and he can been a little curt and sassy via email)
Professor Boyd, in a few words... Cannot teach. His lectures are dry, the TAs he hires are dry, and the grading is something I am still wrapping my head around. The assignments and tests Boyd makes barely have anything to do with comprehension and are graded based on how much the TA likes you. Almost everyone felt as though they deserved higher mar
He doesn't know how to word questions on tests, I also found 3 spelling mistakes on the first quiz. He rambles a lot in lectures and it is so difficult to focus. I got relatively nothing out of this class
I was very disappointed with this class. The lectures are unorganized and dense. Prof. Boyd does not use powerpoint slides which makes it difficult for students to keep up and take notes at the rate he speaks. Exams and assignments are fairly easy, but the marking scheme he uses is unfair and leaves students with little room for error.
