Great professor, not super strict, very knowledgeable and always open to discussions. Lecture attendance is definitely recommended (participation marks) but not necessary. The course is not very difficult if you study and understand the material. Definitely recommend taking this course if it seems like something you might find interesting.
I really enjoyed the topic. I think people believed it was going to be a bird course but it's actually an in depth course on the Phil of Perception. We strayed from the course syllabus after he accommodated people (who failed a test) by allowing for group presentations to help increase their mark. Too many people rudely are talking in the class.
The professor is excellent. The students are not. Instead of cheating, study.
Doesn't respond to emails. He said himself that he doesn't check it. Does not mark reasonably. He doesn't take attendance and does not make an effort to know who anyone is. Gave me a super low grade for participation and I engaged in a lot of discussions. You must write 4 D2L posts per week. The course seems fine until he starts giving final marks.
DO NOT fall for the 5.0 ratings on this professor because I did. I have previous experience with philosophy courses and his marking was not it. The textbook was impossible to find online. The format of the quizzes and exam were not really explained during class but they are doable (must be done with a lockdown browser).
Overall this class was good. Lectures were detailed and there was lots of discussion in class about the subject. It's not too difficult to pass this class since exam and quiz are quite easy if you do the readings and remember them. However, I feel the grades awarded for participating were extremely low compared to the actual participation I did.
I love this prof! he's amazing and funny, i loved going to the lectures. 2 quizzes, an essay, and exam, discussion posts and participation. So you can definitely pull yourself up if you mess up. He quizzes and exams were honestly so easy, you don't have to study that much for it. one downside, is he doesn't follow the syblus dates multiple times.
The class was really fascinating but you could tell this was the 1st time this class was offered. Prof. Richards was extremely knowledgable in everything AI, so it was great having him give a breadth in scope of information regarding historical and modern AI. There needs some refinement in the syllabus but would take a course with him again.
He definitely cares about what he's teaching and wants engaging conversations, which I loved. His instructions for assignments were sometimes confusing, but he's also not very strict, so it balances out. He wants students to know how to develop a philosophical argument, and so he has a strong anti-AI stance (for obvious reasons).
Dr. Richards is knowledgeable and capable of facilitating some really interesting discussions. HOWEVER Expectations were unclear and feedback was non-existent. The material was interesting, but it felt like the course was getting in the way of learning it. I could see him being great for grad student classes, but don't take him in undergrad
