I look forward to this class every week as I know I'm about to gain in depth knowledge on the philosopher we're about have lecture about. More than willing to entertain all student questions. Still allows for essay to be written outside of class, of which you receive excellent feedback on. Would take again.
He is a good guy but be ready to get no marks until the actual end of the semester, he does weekly reading responses and those exact questions are what the tests are comprised of so thats a W, lecture slides arent really helpful theyre just quotes so you kinda have to teach yourself.
Prof Clamen explains dense material well. His slideshows and lectures are helpful. He can go on tangents which are interesting, but some students may not enjoy his teaching style. This course had two essays, weekly responses, and an exam, so understanding the material is necessary to do well.
Professor Clamen was very kind and funny throughout the semester. Although he doesn't return marks until the end of the course, the work was fairly easy given that you do the bare minimum and actually read the readings. That being said, his lectures could get pretty boring at times, as he would sometimes mumble a lot.
His D2L page is very organized, and he clearly respects his students. There's no textbook, and while attendance isn't mandatory, you're responsible for the material. Marking is slow, but expectations are clear, so it wasn't an issue for me.
It's literally the final 2-3 weeks of the semester and I haven't received a single mark (pun intended). It's frustrating because I don't even know how I'm doing in the course so I'll never know whether I should've dropped it or not. He seems like a chill guy but I basically have had to teach myself the entire course lol.
If you never want to know your grade, I highly recommend! Weekly response questions to do and have yet to receive a single grade. Class is usually cancelled because he is always late for 9am.
Words can't explain how disorganized this prof is. It's week 7 and I still haven't received a single mark back since THE 1ST WEEK. You are lucky if he decides to show up to class because he thinks “9am is too early”, chances are he's showing up an hour late or just not at all. Doesn't consider others time only himself, absolutely do not recommend.
If you're good at writing essays then this course + prof is for you. The mark breakdown is discussion posts (10%), two essays (25% and 30%), and an online final exam (35%). For the final exam you answer 6 of 12 discussion post style questions and are given plenty of time to do it. I believe this is the easiest Group 1 course.
Sure he is knowledgable, but how is he soooo busy that we cannot get our final grade or other grades until the end of the semester? (Servicehub still is not showing up)... His modules are SO long, and he makes weird feedback comments on essays. He is disorganized and a man of FEW words. Instructions for disc. are unclear too.
