The course format was frustrating: no assignments, only two very difficult exams. Lectures were dense, slides weren't posted, and only vague outlines were provided, so it was easy to miss important details. Exams tested readings and lectures very closely. I'd avoid this class if GPA matters to you.
Interesting content and she is very knowledgeable but you have to basically memorize every reading and lecture if you want to succeed in this class. Not an easy course...the exams are very challenging. Definitely doesn't feel like an intro course
Your whole mark is based on a midterm and an exam. Her exams are very difficult. She talks too fast during lectures and its almost impossible to get sufficient notes. If you miss even one class, you will likely fail the exam.
She's brilliant. A third of the readings are actually articles she's published / linked to her own podcast. She is clearly an expert in her field and very passionate about what she teaches. Student perspective: this class is hard. Despite being framed as an intro class: it requires a substantial about of memorization and is more of law class.
I have never had such an unpleasent experience with a professor until this course. I am Indigenous and work in the legal sector, so I was highly optomistic considering her background. Prof Palmater ended up being the most insufferable person I have met. She spends her lectures showing off rather than teaching. I dropped the course after 3 classes.
The class had three components: participation, midterm, and final so you dont have a large margin of error. The content itself isnt hard but its a lot to remember. Theres nothing in the exams she doesnt cover in class or in readings so I'd say theres no surprises and shes overall fair. Her lectures are pretty thorough and overall interesting imo.
She does not accomodate her students even if they have proper documentation. She is very rude. Does not pay attention to her students and leaves class quickly. Very Hard Marker! If you ask to meet with her after class she doesnt make time! Over All one of the worst Proffs I have taken a course with! DONT TAKE HER CLASS!
As much as I wanted to learn about the course content, this was not an easy course despite being designed for first-years. Very few assignments throughout the term, which are all graded very strictly. No rubric provided so you just have to hope your essays are good enough, which they probably won't be. Avoid.
Tough grader. Even if your write the best essay of your life - her standards are impossible to meet. If you skip a lecture or two you won't be able to write the assignments. All the assignments are based on what you learned from the lectures. She talks way too fast for the lecture notes to even make sense. Feels more like a law class.
Dr. Palmater is very kind, caring, and inspiring. She is highly qualified and knows her stuff. The class is not easy- it has a lot of content, in my opinion too much- it can get very overwhelming. Shes a lawyer so theres a lot of emphasis on legal stuff (not my fav) Overall, not a bird course at all, but you will learn!
