Dale was a great prof. At times the lectures were very heavy and there was quite a lot of reading but he is very knowledgeable and made great discussions with the content. He gives great examples for assignments and gives timely feedback.
Dale Smith is one of the most interesting profs at Ryerson. Soft spoken, kind, intelligent and passionate. He tends to give way too many readings but he is an easy marker!
Dale is a great person but sometimes gets distracted and off track during lecture. It's not mandatory to attend lecture and you can still get a solid mark if you do. A good class to take if you have a heavy semester with other courses as you can slack a little and still expect a decent mark. Overall a good course and a good prof.
Dale was the absolute BEST professor I've had during my 2 years at Ryerson. He is so passionate about literature, and even more passionate about helping his students develop an appreciation for literature. He's encouraging, sympathetic and a very well read character. Make sure you show up to workshops and take advantage of class discussions!
I honestly just did not like this course at all. I found it to be boring with boring readings. Dale though was always kind and enthusiastic about the class. He did though often just read off the slides and did not put much effort into them. Some class discussion but not very much. Even with the negative points he was a good prof and I'd take again.
Dale is a soft-spoken poet. A little bit of a tryhard sometimes, but he means well. I got stuck with this class, and I hardly went bc sometimes his lectures were bland but I still finished off with a B. It's a dry course, so he does his best to make it seem cool, which I appreciate He's a sweet guy but even if you don't do his readings you'll be ok
Not even remotely a fan of this professor. Do yourself a favour & don't take this class with this professor.
Material can be dry but he does his best to engage the class and is funny while doing so. Assignments and exam seem to be straight forward and class time is spent reviewing it.
Dale gets super excited about the course material and he's a really nice guy but the course material itself is super dull. Lectures really don't cover much and aren't insightful. Tutorials were not much better but if you just go to those and just skim the readings you'll do fine. However if you ask Dale or any of the TA's for help you'll get it.
I've had Professor Smith twice and enjoyed taking his class both times. He's very understanding and approachable and is able to hold your attention throughout the lecture. There was no final exam for ENG 720 and that was a huge bonus. He's also a really fair marker.
