I would not recommend taking a course with this professor. In my experience, the class was poorly organized, communication was inconsistent, and grading expectations were unclear. These issues made the course more stressful than it needed to be and negatively affected my learning experience.
The negative reviews make no sense. Professor Lorella was nothing but sweet to me and my whole class. She would go out of her way to bring us treats. Had a good sense of humour. Very empathetic and caring, giving us extra time for submissions. Also provided good, individualized feedback. Deliverables were clear and relatively easy to follow.
Best Prof I ever had currently. Is introverted but doesn't make it awkward. Super inspirational, gave great advice, was nice, and understanding. Is more of a research person. Makes time to give feedback on student's work and is extremely nice about it. Although the criteria can be somewhat confusing, talking to her can clear it up.
The worst professor I have ever had. Every time I come to one of her classes I leave with the thought "this was such a waste of time". She's extremely rude, has told students that they don't belong in the program, fails people for no reason, doesn't make time to see you, even if you need 3 minutes to talk. Just the most terrible human being.
Great pro for IRN! The course outline can sometimes be confusing, but she gives good critiques and feedbacks.
Lorella and her project outlines can be unclear and confusing. It's difficult to understand what exactly she is looking for. Her delivery of criticisms can be blunt but are constructive. Check offs make up a lot of the grade and are done in EVERY class, so expect to be putting in lots of work outside of class to meet her expectations.
Confusing and condescending. If you want to cry after class make sure to sign up for Lorella
Not good unless you're exactly what she's looking for. Puts expectations on her students that she does not withhold herself.
Very unclear when explaining projects, students only understand after critiques and check-off marks are graded. When receiving critiques it is confusing to understand what she is asking for. Hates when you miss class, however has cancelled classes multiple times and takes long 'breaks' during the scheduled class times.
Lorella is a great teacher, dedicated and caring. She is involved in helping the community and strives to better her students every day.
