Very opinionated, knowledgeable prof. If you mimic her words when writing essays and exams, you will do well.
Really enjoyed her film history course. She required that each student write a one page report on the subjects of that weeks readings to be handed in each class, which all together would add up to %20 of your mark. Some students who didn't want to read or attend class disliked her. But if you do the reports their basically free marks.
I have taken 4 courses with Janice, and she is a great professor. Very fair marker, but you really will need to attend classes, take notes, and do readings. She screens some very interesting films so going to class is actually very fun. She is very opinionated and bluntly honest, but it does lead to some interesting discussion!
Why didn't I find Janice earlier, I am SOOO sad I cannot take anymore classes with her. She was amazing and so much to learn from her. Her markings are so lenient and her response to emails are immediate. I loved how she knew my name (even though it is a tough name to pronounce)by the first week of class. She is AMAZING. GPA booster! defo take!!
great teacher !! I have had 3 classes with her and she is a fair marker but also very interesting. she relates issues to current world topics and that brings the class in a lot. her assignments are very relatable to the class and she is very nice. if you take her classes you will learn something and if you try hard you will get a good grade
Jan's classes are great. The structure makes sense, marks come from quick summaries of readings (free marks basically), an essay, and an exam. Missing a couple classes is okay, she posts notes online and you can find the screening elsewhere, but it's worth going. She's snarky and entertaining, and also really knows what she's talking about.
Great professor. Keeps the class entertaining and interesting. Wants you to exceed and is fairly easy going.
Janice Kaye is a knowledgable and funny professor. I'm not sure why people don't like. Half of your mark comes from attending class and doing the take home readings. The movies shown in the class were prime examples of the concepts she was trying to teach. This class opened me up to movies that I've never seen. And they were fabulous, just say yes!
I had the pleasure of taking 2 of Kaye's classes in one semester. Her essay format allowed me to explore 2 fantastic films and she was helpful at all stages. She is understanding, knowledgable, passionate about film and incredibly fair. Her contribution to the Ryerson community cannot be overlooked, not just for her impressive curiculum vitae.
I loved Janice as a Professor. The essay outline was literally a paragraph and the rest is up to you. I love it when professors do that! It leaves room for the student to actually learn while writing an essay! She is helpful and tries to learn your name (which is always sweet!)
