Learned nothing in this class. Everything was self taught, or taught by the TAs. He's hard to follow because he goes off on so many tangents.
To do well on the tests you should go to class, take notes, plus read ALL assigned articles and textbook. The final was all MC and the questions drew from all of these. I found it rather difficult. Also, go to every seminar - easy marks. Midterm was short answer. The marking was very tough there as well. Joerg is smart, but he can go off topic.
Everything is awful. TA's were awful. His favourite word is "um". His tangents are unrelated. Unless you hate yourself, DONT take this class. Also Final Exam is murder.
I have done a fair few politics classes (at Ryerson and overseas) and this is one of the clearest. I have to admit I am slightly confused by some of the reviews of Joerg's teaching. His teaching was crystal clear and to the point. Know's what he's talking about and willing to engage students in active discussion. Definitely need to attend lectures.
The class is boring as hell but make sure you attend all of them (attendance is worth 20%). First assignment was hard ( I asked for an extension but He didn't give it to me but I still ended up doing well). He marks pretty easy because I didn't even finish the question on the exam but ended up with an 83. Review the readings before the exam.
Joerg is a great professor for upper year students but as a first year I found his intro politics course quite difficult. Reading the textbook is 100% necessary and there is a lot of self teaching. Attendance is very necessary to pass course although lectures are not the most interesting if you are not a politics major.
Great course, lots of interesting topics covered, and content was pretty current. The readings were a bit hard to understand but a visit during office hours helps. Plus, his accent and adorableness doesn't hurt either.
His lectures a bit long and hard to follow but he's a really nice guy who you have to give some credit, given what he's trying to teach us. Go to his office hours and ask him for help, it'll help a lot.
THE WORST PROF IN POLITICS!!!!! I HATE HIS GRADING. IT IS PATHETIC.
