Makes no constructive criticism, will change all your pitches to whatever she likes and not what is convenient for your film and perspective.
Made me want to drop out
A lot of people don't like her but personally I think she's an amazing prof. First impression is everything and she is very traditional about classroom respect. She is harsh but everything she does only improves your vision and helps you realistically budget and schedule your films. I have so much respect for how she treats her female students!
terrible prof, classes consist of youtube videos on zoom. gives you a very hard time, tough marker for no reason. she is incredibly rude. one of the worst profs ive ever had. avoid at all costs.
I took first year film production with Gerda. Her feedback on film pitches was very negative and in hand limited your creativity. You were not able to be encouraged and refine your initial idea and make it into something great. Instead you are stripped of your ideas and left with little to work with. However a fair marker.
You will be scared of this woman at first as you should be but by the end of a year with her you'll understand why she does thing the way she does and why it made you a better film maker.
Gerda is tough at start, first impression is key. She does seem to have favourites and is adamant about certain things. All in all, great course and will improve your filmmaking skills dramatically.
I took film one with Gerda. She unfortunately picks favorites and her criticism is rarely helpful. Her use of the text book was unneeded as she simply read the book aloud. Do your best to make a good first impression or you will pay for it.
Gerda is tough and fair. She will push you, but for your own benefit. She may not phrase her criticism in the most constructive way, but don't doubt her positive intentions - she pushes her students because she wants us to be better filmmakers. Also beware of her, at times, lack of North American pop cultural knowledge when you pitch your ideas.
