Her lectures and classes were entirely uninspiring. She is one of those profs who is so stuck in the old school journalism ways. She was often very rude to students and showed no empathy. I don't think she is well suited to be a professor or to deal with students needs.
Little to no cultural awareness and not respectful of students time. Told me my edits would take half an hour, but almost two hours later I was still working on them due to her lack of knowledge about certain things - why doesn't she just use google or at least take the time to fully read the article before asking dumb questions?!
I've never felt so uninspired to continue with my journalism career than I did while taking this course. She has no understanding of student's mental health and accessibility needs. Be ready to change your writing style completely. After all, it's April's way or the highway.
Honestly the worst prof I've ever had. Half of the semester was presentations that she rudely interrupted the entire time. When I came to her when dealing with serious mental and physical illnesses that were causing my lack of attendance in class she told me she was "disappointed and not impressed" with me. Not at all understanding of mental health
can teach some valuable writing tools but in the one of the most painful classes you will ever take. within three weeks students start to drop like flies. lacks compassion, patience and misses office hour appointments. her word doc edits are a pain.
Hardest marker I've ever had. Her specialty is politics. Teaching a fashion journalism class? Idk who thought this decision was right. She doesn't have knowledge about fashion so she makes up for it by giving 40 page readings. Her quizzes & picky marking is what effected my GPA. I'm extremely disappointed.
Do yourself a huge favour and don't take a class with her. Worst professor I've ever had.
Walking into her class every day gave me so much anxiety, I really wouldn't recommend taking her course. She likes to pick students who don't raise their hands, berate students in class either by reading their work out loud or calling them out, roll her eyes at students who give answers she doesn't like and uses Videolicious for big assignments.
Probably one of the toughest journalism classes I've taken, and my marks in other classes this semester suffered as a result. April is nice when you get to know her one-on-one but in the classroom setting, she expects a lot. Very heavy course load that can often take up your entire weekend (or longer) and tough marker.
