There are way too many readings involved. If you don't keep up with them on a weekly basis, then you'll have a really hard time with the midterm and the final. Midterm and final are open book and there will be a debate too. There are questions she'll have at the end of 5 classes for participation marks. Overall, very caring prof.
Rachel Langford is an incredible professor who is so passionate about childcare advocacy and policy. She is always accessible outside of class and wants to see her students learn the material and succeed. Lots of readings! It was a hard course but I learned so much about policy and how to advocate for better childcare. Highly recommend this prof!!!
Professor Langford is able to take difficult material and make it comprehensible. Her lectures and slides are incredibly helpful and bring clarity to readings that can be be difficult to grasp. She embodies the ethics of care in her teaching and interactions with students, and she truly cares for her students and their success in the course.
Absolutely fantastic course and prof! Prof Langford is an excellent teacher. She is enthusiastic, authentic, so knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to ensure students understand the material. I found care theory to be inspiring and very applicable to many disciplines and life in general. Highly recommend.
This was my least enjoyed course in the program. She is very on the fence when answering questions instead of giving a clear yea or no. Unclear what she is looking for. Take another course!
Unclear in terms of expectations from students. Passion isn't reflected through teaching. Changes her mind all the time and doesn't care about her students.
Attendance is mandatory - she does not post any slides online and she is very detailed. As much as the course content is very subjective she marks on a complicated objective measure. Do not be fooled by the course title, it is a highly theoretical and philosophy course. She focuses highly on Held's theory of care ethics - which is confusing.
Overall great person. Does not teach well the necessary class materials. Teaches from powerpoint, but doesn't post them. Mid-term and Finals were open book however, since expectations are not clarified average and poor marks are a result. You must teach yourself more than what you'll learn in class. Great course, need a different teacher.
