This class was more work than all my other core classes. The weekly discussion cannot even be a day late or else she won't mark them. The tests are pretty hard and even with a musical background, I found myself struggling to answer the questions. She's not accommodating and quite frankly, pretty rude in emails. Wouldn't recommend.
I really enjoyed her class. You can tell she's passionate and loves what she does. Everything on the exam is in the lectures, you just have to make sure to go to each one 10/10. Exams aren't too hard but naturally, you still have to study.
She rarely expand on main points from the slideshows, which makes class notes very unhelpful for exams, and majority of the relevant exam work is independent from the textbook. Additionally, she teaches about the colonial period in Europe but doesn't acknowledge colonialism at all and refers to it as exploration.
would refer to European colonization as "exploration" and would sugarcoat the entire classical music period, enough said.
the reviews here made me take her but i really regretted it. so hard for an elective (like bruh its abt music why make it so hard). exams are tough, expect u to be mozart or smth. if you have little to no music background, you'll suffer in this class. participation required, if not ur asked to do a presentation. avoid.
She was a good professor overall. I found this class to be a lot of work for an elective. I appreciated that her lectures were about an hour long and well-structured, which made them manageable. I did a lot more work for this class than any of my other ones.
MUS101 great course as an liberal for easy marks. Force is an nice professor. Just got to attend in class, sometimes be active for participation marks. Do your little studying before test, you'll get easy grades. Note-taking is quite important in her class so skipping is not ideal here. Her test sometimes throws in random question our of boundary.
Dr. Force is simply a very good professor. This course is based on 4 things - discussion boards, midterm, essay, and final exam for your entire grade. If you show up to class, do the discussion boards and essay properly by following her criteria and rubric/expectations, you'll do great. I took this course as my elective and am ending with an A!
Dr. Force was incredible, and I'm not even exaggerating. If you try and work hard, read the e-book and participate in class, you will definitely succeed. Ask questions, especially for assignments/exams, SHOW UP TO CLASS - this is important, and you'll learn a lot. She also gave little gifts to students who excelled, which was so kind of her!!!
