I took her class through the University of Winnipeg. The lectures were informative and interesting. However, she's a really tough grader, and it's almost impossible to get a perfect score from her or an A in papers. I wish she provided more insightful feedbacks in discussions and papers to help students improve better.
Orme had fantastic material to work with; passionate about fairytales. She focused intensely on essay writing & other technical details that took away from discussion time. She wasted lectures explaining homework formats done to her liking to the T when she could've been engaging students in discussion. Keep in mind - very strong personal views.
If you take this course, be prepared to not receive an A. I never missed a discussion posting and met all of her requirements, yet she graded below 8/10 on all weekly discussions. She also never gave comments on weekly postings, so I never knew how to improve. The essays were doubly difficult and she graded even more harshly on those.
Professor Orme was prejudice and bias in her marking. Although she feigns the encouragement of evidenced free-thought, she is swift to grade harshly anything that does not align with her mentality. She does not provide sufficient guidelines and only gives feedback if requested in advance-a requirement she doesn't mention until after marking).
This professor was not helpful at all. I was excited about taking an entry level course on popular literature but the instructor deterred my interests. She graded harshly and did not give feedback on weekly assignments. I would advise against taking this course. I have taken other literature courses which were much more enjoyable and fairly graded.
Professor Orme was very clear with any instructions. Everything needed for the online course (as well as extra information) was uploaded into the online course shell. She responds to her emails very quickly. There were 3 major papers and a weekly discussion post(2 quesitons - 200 word answers ea.). Thought the participation mark was unnecessary.
She was very helpful. She took the time to review the material. Her exams covered what she said in class and did not deviate from it. Children's Lit became more interesting than just a dry class. I was happy with the choice of taking this class and do recommend it to others!
Jennifer explained the course content very clearly. Her lectures were interesting and thorough. If you show up and do the work, you won't have a problem. She lays out how to get a great mark at the very beginning and the course outline is consistent.
