Tough grader. Teaching courses about BIPOC struggles as a yt woman through a yt woman lens, while criticizing how yt people take up spaces better suited for BIPOC.
Shocking how shes even allowed to teach. Suspected me of academic misconduct when I genuinely had done nothing. Fought for 3 months and she lost haha. Apologized to me but now i feel like she was actually not even a good teacher overall. She had lots of reading and shes difficult to understand.
no electronics policy was though to bear. Very strict on rules but if you're able to look past that the content is very interesting and she makes it quite digestible.
Ironically, the "decolonisation" course is taught by a White prof who values her own voice over students. Abrasive in nature, she comes off as disrespectful and inconsiderate. Content is simple and assignments are fair, but would definitely not recommend. "Learning" is common knowledge for any POC but explained by a condescending White woman.
This course was amazing and I enjoyed working with the professor. Online courses are a hit or miss, but I actually enjoyed this course. The only difficult thing about this course was having to learn Chicago style of citations, but other than that, this course was relatively easy. Lots of participation and discussions with peers.
She's not an understanding person. You try to explain but she cuts you off. She thinks she's well above everybody. Respect goes both ways.
Its a shame that this course is so interesting, because the professor is frustrating to work with. I am someone who typically does well in school, but am sitting at a C because her grading is so tough. Marks are taken off if people do not engage with your discussion posts, tests are designed to be confusing, and assessments are harsh. AVOID!!
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! This class's subject matter has so much potential to be eye-opening and informative, yet she completely butchered it! The whole class is one big "no duh" moment for any POC, which would be fine, except tht she provides no feedback on assignments after the first one. She is completely out of touch and white centered teacher
Professor Jacklin's lectures were always very interesting and engaging. We did have group discussions often about the movies. I would say she is an average grader but she is willing to help when you need it. However, she is very stern on attendance, I would suggest you attend every class to avoid losing marks and to not miss the amazing lectures!
No idea why the ratings are so harsh. She's a sweetheart and is clearly very passionate about what she teaches which is quite rare to find in professors nowadays. The only drawback is having to leave your camera on for the entirety of the class but you get used to it. It is an intensive course so expect assignments due every few days.
