professor chafe is a good guy and his lectures are very engaging but his feedback on assignments is vague or inaccurate making it hard to build off to correct mistakes.
This person may be under a lot of pressure in their personal life, and they may put as much pressure on and make things difficult for their students in class, resulting in vague feedback on assignments.
I've never had any major issues with my writing, while I understand that this is university, this prof made me feel like I wrote at a kindergarten level. He gives feedback that doesn't make sense such as "use direct quotes from the article" and then you'll go back to your work and see that you've used multiple quotes from the article. like what?
Really fun and charismatic guy. Lectures are engaging and the course is very well structured. Pretty hard marker
Such an amazing professor!!! Honestly, reading his reviews before taking his class had me super nervous and terrified, but he's actually really nice and understanding, accommodating as well. He let me resubmit one of my homework activities as I ended up doing it wrong. He gives out bonus exercises and provides you with incredible feedback!
He gives good feedback, explains his expectations well, and he is pretty funny. Bit of a tough grader but if you actually listen to feedback, be respectful during class, and go to class you will do well. Go to office hours and ask questions.
For a mandatory course that could've been boring Paul included & acknowledged each student recognizing age groups & their interests such a fun class the txtbk is provided w clear & imp instructions the participation exercises are an easy cheat got them done? easy A for you! PARTICIPATE!! fun convos who doesn't love that? good luck!!
Chafe was a great prof! Learnt lots from him and he was easy to access after class, he provided great feedback every time! Would definitely recommend for SSH 205, you probably won't find a better prof for this course, oh and the textbook is free :)
Very funny and entertaining, 3 hour lecture went fast. I had friends who did not appreciate his humor and felt very negatively about him. To me it seemed like he genuinely cared for his students. Getting good grades was easy but he gives u so much negative feedback and says the mark that he could have given u which is normally lower.
Literally my goat. I don't understand how anyone has had a bad experience with him. I did pretty well in his class, though the final exam was difficult and my lowest mark. His feedback is great, and if you follow it you will see a difference in your marks. Overall, he is just a funny sweet guy. Love you Paul!!
