Dr. Levine may not be the most engaging professor, but considering the lecture is 3hrs long, I wasn't expecting to be focused the entire time. He is passionate on the topics discussed despite his slow and monotone pace. He is kind towards his students and truly cares that they do well. Give effort to understand the main points and you'll do fine.
It was the perfect class to take first semester of university because Dr. Levine's feedback on assignments are phenomenal! He gets you to stop thinking like a high schooler and helps you learn from your mistakes. I was nervous going in because of his reputation but from my experience, NONE of the rumors are true. If you work hard, you'll do fine!!
Ira gets bad rep but it doesn't deserve it. His class is hard but if you show up and put in the effort you'll do fine. He is super sweet and very funny, and makes the information accessibly and easy to understand. All hail King Ira.
interesting at times, but lectures are very long(3 hrs). i usually start disassociating around the 90 minute mark. at the very least, read summaries of the plays and figure out aristotle or you wont pass. adapted pretty good to online also: he isolates the minor students... like they arent good enough to interact with the performance majors
Dr. Levine is a wonderful professor who is very knowledgable with all aspects of theatre history. Considering the switch to online he is very understanding with the challenges that may arise from said circumstances. A lot of reading in the course but overall Dr. Levine makes the concepts easy to understand.
Just do the work, be prepared and you're fine! I thought he was going to be a tuff marker but no. (Keep in mind I did work hard) :)
He's a lecture prof who expects you to do the work. He is well-versed in his field and is super interesting if you can pay attention. He is competent and clear on Zoom. He favours actors, which is very apparent in the group presentations. Clear expectations, good rubrics and expectations. Do the readings, come to class, take notes and do the work.
Write down everything he says.
Sad a professor of his calibre is so out of touch with the way students learn in the 21st century. Laptops are banned from the class and only permitted with accommodations from the university. Levine is a career professor that fails to think critically nor understand the true nature of today's student.
He... talks... so... slow. If I had three hours left to live I would chose this class because thats how long it felt. Is really weird about computers/phones in class. If you're not going for a theatre minor/in a performance school program don't chose this class. Only buy Theatre, A concise history and the Broadview of Anthology
