Spends too much time doing theory and not enough examples. Homework and quizzes are always a week ahead so nothing you learn in class can help you. The other sections get ten questions per week from the book while we only get one he made up but the numbers are based on your student ID and he over-complicates it with his obsession of Greek letters.
You're better off learning from another professor. He does not prepare you for the test, nor does he answer emails. I just learned through the textbook after a while because his lectures were pointless to go to.
He's a cute old man who is funny without trying to be however he is not helpful at all! The tests are decent but class is very confusing! If you ask a question he'll go around the topic and never ends up answering your question. I basically taught myself the course.
if there was enough chalk in the world, it still wouldnt be enough
He actually makes the topic more confusing than it needs to be. For example, in the course, B represents a basis. He'll change the variables day-to-day to random greek letters so your notes wont be consistent when you look back at them. Spends all class showing proofs that are not needed in the tests whatsoever. Learned the whole course from text.
Good prof knows his stuff. Just puts way to much emphasis on the stuff that he thinks is a better way. Usually will lose tons of marks for it. If you want to learn new stuff hes good if you want high memorized grades youre screwed
Easy tests. And thats all that matters.
Dr. Lawrence definitely knows his stuff. That being said, his notes are very unorganized when he writes on a blackboard, and sometimes hard to follow. Overall his evaluations are easy.
Does stuff that we've never learned in previous classes and then gets angry when students don't understand. 90% of this class was him doing proofs that we didn't need to know for the course. The good thing is he had pretty simple tests.
Yes he is a great mathematician but that doesn't mean he is a great professor. Very difficult to follow along to his lectures. He jumps from one topic to another. His assignments are rather difficult. If you aren't required to take this course I wouldn't.
