If you stay on top of your readings and attend lectures to understand core concepts, you'll do well. With the essay, I appreciated that he actually took the time to read through it and give real feedback that I could use later on in my other courses. He's pretty chill, and made lectures interesting. Participation not mandatory but is encouraged.
STAY ON TOP OF YOUR READINGS GUYS. DO NOT FALL BEHIND.
You're grade is made up of 3 things, which means you don't have a lot of opportunity to increase it. Dr. Solomon is an ok prof and he grades harshly. I didn't like his teaching style and it bore me quite a bit. He uses the full 3 hour lecture and gives a 10-15 minute break. Essay grade, worth 40% is released day before final.
I'd recommend this professor. He's kind, caring, and respectful, and he's very accommodating with student needs. He offers helpful guidance about the social work field and shares personal experiences that make his classes more meaningful.
I really enjoyed him as a professor. He brought a lot of lived experiences to the course that helped integrate all of the content. It's not an easy course, and I don't think he makes it easy. So if you don't come to class or read the readings, you'll struggle. But he wants everyone to learn and encourages lively discussions, which I loved.
Lectures were engaging but he will use up the entire 3 hours. The readings were heavy and must be read to receive a decent grade. Very tough marker with the mindset that "nobody is perfect". Participation matters in his class and attendance is mandatory. Overall a good guy, but strict prof.
Very understanding and engaging. He cares about his students and loves what he does. Amazing lectures!!!
I respected Professor Solomon as a professor and learned from his class. However, I found that he was very reserved and lacked personality or a connection to his students.
Avoid this professor at all costs. This professor claims to be an "ally" for communities who have been marginalized but does nothing to help; all performative.
Final exam is on all the readings throughout the course so be sure to make notes as you go cause he'll only go over important points & have class discussions, which were great, just don't let yourself slip up. Our grade was made up of 3 things which meant a lot was riding on the 1 40% essay & 1 40% exam we had. Other was some test we had in class.
