Lectures are very dull, he doesn't go over examples, but he makes very fair exams and assignments. The exams are straightforward, the assignments are very long, but he gives around a month to do them, and he's very helpful if you ask him questions in office hours. All he needs to do is go over examples in class instead of reading off the slides.
He is a good person. Although his lectures aren't the best and his slides have a lot of errors on them, he wants his class to succeed. His midterm and final are very straightforward and most of the mark was assignment based which you have a lot of time to work on. They are quite lengthy; however, so be ready to grind. Would take this prof again.
Dr. Olivares is so so so nice and always willing to help. Gives opportunities for bonus marks on assignments and participation which is nice. His notes have a lot of mistakes (which he eventually corrects), but make sure to read carefully and understand so you can correct them yourself lol. Tests are easy and fair too if you study
He read the PowerPoint for class which is copied from his book. It’s very dense and full of typos and mistakes. The assignment was as well. I would ask for examples to material but he just wouldn’t do it which is very frustrating. This course has been very stressful. He does genuinely seem like a nice guy but I wish I had a diff prof
Lectures were a bit monotone because he follows his own lecture notes. He covered topics that's not in the course description of MTH500 such as GARCH and ARMA models in Time Series. He does a quick refresher from MTH304 & MTH404 before starting the new material. Flexible in choice of programming languages (R, Python, MATLAB). Helpful in office hour
Pablo is a great person, always available to office hours, explains many concepts even if you missed lectures, the course was quite interesting (lecture material is very dull but the assignment which were very long hard and were very useful).
Very knowledgeable. A little difficult to understand but you get used to it. In the end he was great.
His notes are absolutely terrible. Full of mistakes and too focused on theory. Not many examples and he doesn't go over them. His assignments were full of questions that seemed to be pulled from thin air bc his notes were not helpful at all in doing them. However, his tests were fair and he's a very lenient marker (probably bell curves too).
lots of mistakes in notes. focuses on theory, doesn't go over examples. the only way i passed the class is cause i had a previous student's work and learned how to answer the questions using those answers. He's a nice guy though and marks fairly well. Tests are pretty fair. 1 double sided cheat sheet on midterm and 2 on for the final.
