If you're a racialized student, be prepared to be gas lighted. She claims English is also her second language but the intention is to minimize your struggles as an immigrant. She shouldn't be teaching at TMU. She is very passive aggressive to the point that she won't even upload the right info on D2L for her students!
waited a few years to write this review but she uses her classroom for recruitment. she pressures students into staying when they get a job at her place of employment. she is coercive and takes advantage of the power imbalance that exists between herself and students.
Nicole was a hot mess and so was the final exam. Her lectures were rushed, she releases marks LATE, and she doesn't answer any emails. She also graded the collab paper very harshly meanwhile other profs were very generous. The individual paper was graded more fairly but still not as nicely as other profs. Switch into Rosie's class if possible!!!
Super disorganized and a harsh grader compared to other professors, especially for the collaborative paper. She for some reason exposed everyone's grades in the section (with names!) when giving feedback which I thought was inappropriate. Would not recommend unless you want to make your life more stressful than it already is
Nicole highlights important things during lecture but she speeds through and rarely takes time to properly explain things. She is SUPER disrespectful and rude once you ask her questions, does not ever answer her emails and runs out the minute it's over. She doesn't care about her students and is a whole mess
Her lectures are very short and lacks in detail, but she does highlight the most important parts of each week, so I didn't mind it. When it comes to papers, she provided a very specific rubric, and apparently, many people didn't satisfy her for some reason. I'm pretty sure students were desperately following that rubric to secure at least an A.
Nicole Kirwan's lectures were okay She got straight to the point As a person, she doesn't care about her students at all. She never answers her emails She is rude if you ask her a question Her marking criteria for the paper were unfair, and she was a very hard marker Makes the assignment more complex and didn't follow the syllabus
Nicole made it very clear we students were not her priority.Teaching is her part time job, thus lectures were only 2 hours sometimes shorter as she would teach on her lunch break. Took weeks to grade papers and graded very difficultly considering her criteria were unclear and ambiguous. Never answers emails and when she did, her answers were rude.
she was quite kind. however, her grading was interesting especially for the paper since her recommendations never really aligned with the rubric. She also doesn't outline her expectations properly (again for written assignments). Overall, her lectures were interesting as she always had funky stories to share.
While she tends to go off-topic during lectures, Nicole is a very caring professor. Attendance is mandatory, however she does not drag the class on for the entire 3 hours (which I appreciate). Nicole gives good feedback, and gives you the tools you need to succeed.
