Not a good experience with this prof, even though it was online. Email responses are very dry. Barely understood his weekly lecture videos. Make sure to read the textbook, though.
The midterm and final exam questions had nothing to do with the lecture slides or class material. Only 10-15% of what was taught was tested, and the rest of the questions were unrelated. Plus, the essay needs to be printed out for submission.I found this course with him extremely challenging, especially found it hard to understand his accent.
Ignore the good comments! (he probably wrote them himself) save yourself and don't take any classes that he teaches! his slides are outdated as he was adding new content to the slides mid lecture lol...very difficult to hear because of his accent. Been at TMU since 2006, idk how he has managed to do that.
He is very difficult to get ahold of through email and once he does respond, he tends to make things more difficult than necessary.
Interesting and amazing course, great professor! His exam questions are more likely from discussion during lectures. So, better to go to the lectures if you want good grades!
Course content is not too difficult but negative experience communicating with the professor over email - quite rude
requested me to hand in essay as a physical copy and then LOST my paper and give me a zero
Dr. Aryee is a dry speaker, which is unfortunate because you can tell he cares greatly about the topics in Geography of Toronto. His tone and speaking speed, along with text-only slides, makes it difficult in a 3 hour lecture to keep attention focused. He cares a lot, gives good feedback on the essay and exam, but the course was hard.
There was content in the discussion posts and the midterms that did not appear anywhere in the course content, lecture or textbook. Discussion questions were not really connected to the weekly lecture and the midterm completely blindsided me. I studied the textbook and the lectures and am usually an A student. I should've dropped.
This professor was one of the worst lecturers I've ever had. He stands at the front of the class and mumbles super quietly. Midterm and exam have no relation to any of the content discussed in class. When I reached out to this professor for help, he was extremely rude and condescending in his emails. I would never take a course with him again.
