The lectures are tedious and I personally didn't get much out of them, but the tutorials are good. You can get helpful feedback and inspiration for stuff to incorporate into your own work. There's a bit of subjectivity at play when Lori grades for the “effectiveness” of certain elements of your podcast though. Overall, it was decent.
For a class that is supposed to be about audio production, it got political quite often
Lori's lecture is extremely frustrating. She says a crazy long intro each week before lecturing on basic ideas that are taught in the labs. Attendance is not mandatory in lectures, and the only graded content comes from the labs. The entire course is mostly just following step-by-step instructions to make a podcast and rarely goes into any depth.
Lori's online lectures in RTA104 were completely pointless. Her vague, unclear descriptions of instructions or techniques were much more easily understood in lab. In the future this class should be lab only. By week 5 attendance being an astonishingly low 114/350 by week 5 should tell you all you need to know about how engaging she is as a prof.
Lori was incredibly kind and uplifting as a prof! She always tried to get to know her students and ensure they understand the course material. I also really enjoyed her passion for Sound Media and the engagement she had with her students. We had to hand some things for participation marks! Textbook was only for one assignment. Love her!!!!!
Lori Beckstead teaches the most useless lectures I've ever attended and complains when students stop going. (114/354 students attending by week 8) My lab instructor would always summarize her lectures in like 10 to 20 minutes, so I stopped going to them. The best way to describe this prof is fake nice. She isn't terrible just sooo mid.
she's really really nice. her online lectures aren't mandatory because when you're in the lab they usually recap the lectures.
Lori is an amazing prof, so kind and caring (she makes a point to know everyone by name, wants to know how we are, and what we want to learn about). Assignments are flexible and she gives good feedback, she wants you to succeed, but that sometimes means being called on in class and lots of active participation for marks.
Lectures were virtual and pretty useless as we went over the same things during the labs. Attendance wasn't mandatory so everyone started skipping after the first few classes. Grades and everything I learned was solely based on my lab prof.
The lectures are pretty self-explanatory but she is very passionate which makes it nice. Your experience and grade will depend on your instructor.
