The prof has long notes and is hard to follow when he's teaching and writing on the board in class, but the assignments very creative and informative, and the final exam and grading scheme was extremely fair. A breath of fresh air in a faculty that loves cheating kids on their marks. Also, loved the format of bonus marks for actual cool creations.
Has a great interest in the course and will help out those who ask. He even helped me with a personal project involving the 6502. However he is a bit nervous/shy when speaking during lectures and it is hard to keep focused through them. This is one of the more practical courses, where we even programmed arduino boards. One of my favourite courses.
He's not good at explaining things, and is hard to pay attention to. His labs are really long and hard, and the course is confusing as hell, on top of that there's no textbook and his online notes aren't great. In other words: Good luck
MAN!, His labs are longer than his exam. You need atleast a month to do one of his lab. (u r lucky if u r taking only his course... if u r taking 5 courses then u r screwed)
Unfortunately, his labs are very, very, very long :( Much longer than required.
Really easy course, and he tries to make it interesting!

He's an alright guy, wish he wasn't so boring sometimes. This class would be so much better with our "actual" professor listed on RAMSS.
New teacher but hes totally awesome. I've learned more this semester in this class than all of the other classes put together. His style of teaching makes the material seem easy. And its not just because its an easy class because ive heard alot of horror stories from previous years about this same class.
Fiala is awesome, he's a great person, very enthusiastic about his teaching.He was a little nervous at the start.You can relate to him easily, hes not some stuck up old comp sci fart, hes quite understanding.the course is damn easy, and he makes it more fun.Looking forward to 310 next semester!
