Although the course material isn't too hard to grasp, the lectures were painfully boring. That being said, if you don't show up to class and pay attention you will recieve a low/failing grade. As a heads up; this prof is a fan of group work/ presentations.
By far one of the best professors I have come across at Ryerson. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field and has a lot to offer her students. If you are eager to learn I 100% recommend her class. However, if you are looking for a bird course you won't find it with her. Showing up to class every week is important as is doing the readings.
Tough prof. Painfully long criteria for her assignments. Also a hard marker and not approachable at all (both in class and during office hours).
Lorraine is honestly extremely easy to get along with. She's always helpful when you ask for aid, and though her attitude may seem intimidating she's honestly just interested in seeing students learn and doesn't want to punitive for no reason. You get what you put into this course. If you don't put any effort in, your grade will reflect that.
AVOID with this prof at all costs. Dry, wordy, and boring. While she's clearly a scholar in her line of work, she obsesses over irrelevant things and this will correlate with you ending up with a low mark. Unclear in every aspect, and even if you read the rubrics you're doomed to get a low mark. Just a warning. Also - fake demeanor, seems sweet.
Professor Janzen always provided a very clear rubric for each assignment, making it easy for students to determine exactly what she was looking for. While there were many tedious assignments, the final outcome of being able to publish your work online was fantastic as it really gave students something to work towards.
She is a knowledge Professor, but her assignments are tedious and requires a lot of time to complete. Although the expectations and grading criteria were outlined online, they were still unclear that made it difficult to complete the assignments leading up to the final assignment.
She is a fantastic professor who genuinely cares about the success of her students. She went out of her way to develop an amazing research assignment! However, there seemed to be some students who were unwilling to commit. I believe that if you approach her in a mature manner, she will return the gesture. Her course is a great learning experience!
ENG 810 is a nightmare with this woman!! Hopefully they'll find more than one professor to teach this class because she certainly isn't good at it. This class consists of a lot of assignments and you don't have longer than a week to complete any of them so good luck keeping up with other classes. Ps. Zotero SUCKS. Just a heads up.
Gives very unclear instruction for assignments. Combined with the fact that she is a very harsh marker is a recipe for disaster. She goes out of her way to belittle students especially in private meetings. If you don't deliver exactly what she is looking for on an essay(good luck figuring out what she is actually looking for) you will fail.
