She genuinely cares, in her own way. She's the only professor I've ever had to sit down and talk about what I had in mind for future plans in the industry and give me helpful tips on how to get there.
Listen, communicate, don't ask dumb questions, read and follow instructions, you'll be fine and learn a lot.
to be honest, I had several mental breakdowns due to this course. Just accept you will never fully understand what she's talking about and don't be too hard on yourself. Definitely get yourself into a group chat for support
Valerie's class is meant to weed out first years. You will hate her, she will hate you, but you'll make some friends in suffering together. Stay on top of things, it is so easy to fall behind. Don't give it your all, you'll burn out, try for B's and expect C's. You just gotta get through to get to second year :)
Val will not explain assignments to you and then belittle you for asking questions. She expects all students to have the same appreciation and respect for art when this is a mandatory course that none of us would be taking if we didn't have to. She runs multiple assignments at once, making it easy to fall behind. If I could drop her class I would.
This class was extremely difficult and frustrating. While none of the projects were actually that complicated, they were very tedious and the explanations were poor leaving many people confused. No one knew what was required or the deadlines for them. Her feedback was often rude and unhelpful, often saying things were wrong/bad with no explanation.
Writing this out of frustration. Haven't even finished the class yet, but this is the worst prof I've ever had. No one ever knows what she's talking about, what she wants from us, or what's due and when. The d2l is such a mess and everything is so confusing. this class feels truly pointless. I have no clue what's going on.
Unclear in most assignments. did not explain projects clearly and left many students confused. clearly chose students to pick on
It honestly shocks me to see many negative reviews here. I am so grateful to have had Valerie as a teacher and mentor, I have had many profs but Valerie is the first one to have ever genuinely offered me career guidance . She is completely devoted to the success of her students, and if you ask for help she is more than willing to give it!
Incomprehensible, tedious tasks, disaster of a D2L page. She goes on endless tangents and no matter how hard you try you will not be able to concentrate. Could be an interesting subject without her. Definitely the worst instructor I've had. I'm basically repeating the rest of the reviews here, but I needed to get my anger out.
