Dr. Ouyang sets a high standard for teaching at TMU. Although the course is challenging, his clear explanations and organized lectures make the material much easier to understand. He is always approachable and willing to help outside of class. He truly wants his students to succeed. I couldn't say enough good things about Dr. Ouyang.
MOST OVERHATED PROF OF ALL TIME!!! Ppl hate on him cuz he doesn't speak english well so he's not a good communicator, but he makes up for it with his slides and course organization. His slides are the best I've seen at TMU, very clear. The course is hard don't get me wrong, but it's not really his fault.
Dr. Ouyang is one of the best profs, if not the best profs at tmu. He cares so much about his students and if you go to his office hours he takes time to explain concepts and answers all your questions. If you go to lecture and pay attention you will do well in his class. Tests are fair and nothing you haven't seen in lecture. The best!
People write him off because of his accent, but hes clearly very smart and good at explaining things. His grading criteria is very clear and his review sessions for exams are straightforward. Would love if his lecture slides were a but more clear, but going to class and really listening fixes that problem. Deal with his accent and it'll be fine.
I had no choice but to retake with him in another course of mine. My god I regretted doing that very much. He genuinely does not care how much pain he puts us in. his lectures are completely useless. Counselling hours to go through the exam papers he does not help at all and he just wants you to finish and leave. I wasted another year without learn
Basically trying to learn engineering from a non English foreigner, which kudos if you yourself were trying to teach engineering not in your native language. Your success is dependent on asking as many questions for clarity. Professor is never sarcastic or rude if you ask the same question as someone else who asked 5 seconds ago, he is very nice.
Althought he is very hard to understand, he is honestly an amazing teacher, the best one I have this semester. He has pop quizs but lets you know in advanced and they are extremely helpful in getting you to understand the material since he tends to help during the quiz. Overall, and extremelly underrated prof.
It's EXTREMELY difficult to understand him. The lecture slides aren't even that helpful at times because he skips a lot of steps. A course like control systems takes time to grasp the concepts. I cried a lot during this course, found myself helpless since I didn't understand literally ANYTHING the prof was saying. Read the textbook.
I strongly suggest staying away from Puren Ouyang. His slides are a collage of random words which none make sense nor are a full sentence, with occasional graphs in between the words and some arrows. And if decided to attend the lectures to make up for the slides, there is a massive language barrier that makes the lectures as vague as his slides
Worst teacher ever for a third year course
