Cares a ton for his students, wants you to pass. Makes lectures entertaining, not like typical monotone finance lecturers. Just do your part on practicing, and you'll understand why he emphasizes that. ALSO tells you which lecture examples will show up nearly word-for-word on the exams.
Never provided a practice exam, so it was difficult to prepare for the exams as those rlly helped me for FIN401. However, he was understanding as he made mark adjustments due to the low class averages. Be ready to do LONG MyLabs. To at least pass the exams, do the MyLab/textbook questions and add all his PowerPoint notes to your cheat sheet.
allen goss makes finance just a little easier. he's kind and helpful and actually wants his students to pass. the exams were tough but its finance so thats expected. i recommend him before any finance prof at this school
He was a really good instructor. His lectures were clear, easy to follow, and he always explained concepts in a way that made sense. The exams were tough, but he clarified what to study. I appreciated his effort in teaching and ensuring we understood the material.
What a horrible experience. This is his first semester teaching FIN621, and he has revamped the entire course outline. Failing average for the midterm, so he offered 20% of the midterm grade to be moved to the final for a 65% final. Reduced the number of crib sheets and got rid of the 10% bonus that the other professor offered. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Professor Goss runs a tough class, but engaging with the material and using resources like the free textbook and tools like unstuck study can really help. Stay on top of the homework and you'll get a lot out of the class.
Al gave our whole FIN401 class a final exam review session that ended up lasting 5 hrs of him walking us through questions and answering anything the students needed- ended up boosting the final average from the midterm and it was so helpful! He keeps his lectures engaging and genuinely cares when students ask questions
This guy held a 5 hour extra review class during the exam period. I haven't seen any other professors do that. If that doesn't earn him a good rating, I don't know what does. The difficulty of the exams varies, the midterm was quite hard in my opinion but the final wasn't too bad. I like the way he goes through problems, overall very good prof.
This course is tough, but prof did his best to prepare us. He doesn't use slides, just textbook questions in class. The midterm was hard with the class average in the 40s, and only a 5% boost was given. Final is much easier. To at least pass the exams, focus on doing the textbook questions and old exams.
Al genuinely cares about his students and just wants you to be able to pass. The course content is pretty difficult if you don't do the homework and grind out textbook questions. As a professor and human Al is great, but if you're not someone who's naturally gifted at working with numbers, be prepared to grind out review questions.
