course is not easy as some would have you believe and is actually rather difficult to grasp concepts. lecture examples and tutorial focus will get you through. course grading scheme made we wanna rope it as more than half of the final grade is determined from final exam. Overall great prof who is capable of sympathizing with his students!
Very unorganized d2l and hard to understand in lecture but a great prof overall. eccentric sense of humour but caring and understanding overall. Grading scheme is horrendous imo as final exam is more than half of the entire final grade. study tutorials and lecture examples(attend class lol) more than anything else and that should get you through!
LOVE this prof. Had him for 2 courses this semester and he's the best I've had in my entire degree so far. Very clear grading criteria, fair exams, goes through lots of examples, and is easily accessible outside of class. Answers emails fast as well. Hope to have him again in the future.
Exams are fair, sometimes his teaching is disorganized
He is very genuine and cares about his students. The lecture notes are very organized and you just need to fill in some blanks. If you have the blank lecture notes and textbook, there is no need to attended the lectures at all. The midterm and exam were not easy but fair. He cares so much about theory, so be ready for theory questions on his exams.
I had him for 318 and 617 in the fall semester. His marking criterion is straight forward and as long as you follow it, you shouldn't have a problem doing well in the course. Lectures tend to go by very fast and at times, there can be difficulty with comprehension. Review the assignments, tutorials and textbook problems - you will be fine.
Dr. Doan is an incredible professor. Although I had some difficulty comprehending him during online lectures, he is very accessible via email and if needed, will set up office hours. I would recommend completing as many textbook problems, as well as reviewing the assignment and tutorial problems to ensure you grasp the concepts strongly. Good luck!
He is an amazing human. I have had 3 courses with him so far. He has helped me outside of class as well. However, I do not like his lectures, very difficult to understand his pronunciation.
literally the best chem eng prof. super passionate lectures (which are important to attend), and really accessible outside of class (emails back fast, and will be in his office as long as u let him know u will be attending office hours). SUPER helpful with labs that were confusing, and all assessments were fair and marked fairly. love this man !!
Top professor at ChemEng faculty. Great lecturer, very enthusiastic, positive and inspirational. Very reliable, knowledgeable and caring. Always happy to meet students and interact with them on a genuine basis. Great person and even better professor. Shows that not all profs are miserable.
