Kym is everything a philosophy professor should be. She is extremely friendly, thought-provoking, and focused on the learning and conversation, rather than grades. She creates a welcoming environment where she wants to engage with the class and the class to engage with each other. The more you engage the better you will do on the tests. Great prof!
Kym is an incredible prof who cares about her students. The course itself was easy (1 discussion post + 5 surprise in-class writing assignments). You need to stay on top of readings if you want to do well on the assignments, and attendance is crucial since they're like pop quizzes. 6 opportunities, 5 graded. Plenty of bonus mark opportunities!
Dr. Maclaren's approach to teaching truly exemplifies how a class should be taught. She is caring, thoughtful, and encourages her students to explore their creative minds. Although philosophy can be difficult to grasp, she has an exceptional way of clarifying the material. I highly recommend taking a class with her!
Kym is an outstanding professor who truly cares for her students. I would retake this course without hesitation. The content is useful irl but even if not the course is super chill and constructed such that you feel like your voice is heard and you matter. It's not hard at all, and this professor's approach to teaching is refreshing beyond measure.
I truly loved this course and prof! She was accessible and always easy to reach during her office hours. I highly recommend this class! It was by far my favourite class I have taken at TMU! I would recommend it even if you are not a Philosophy major and need to take it as an elective.
Professor MacLaren truly cares about the student, and the pursuit of philosophy; it is not an exaggeration to say that I felt this from day one. The way she teaches is nothing special, but her character is what sets her apart - her kind nature, the topics covered, the anecdotes she gave - all of these provided a truly amazing class experience.
Out of all the Profs I have had she is the best professor ever. She is engaging and very intreseting. I have never seen such a high attendance in a class before for a whole semster. Not one student is on their phone distracted or anything. Even if you dont do a reading after the class discussion you will want to go do that reading.
Very kind and intelligent woman, but I found her teaching style to be a bit wishy-washy and unclear. I felt as if it was just a long class conversation rather than her teaching us. I found the class and teaching format to lack structure. Still had some incredible conversations and very glad I took her class. She's really sweet
Kym is incredible! She's extremely well-kept when it comes to lectures and has a clear sense of direction with them. She lets students throw massive philosophical swings and lets people deliberate on questions and subjects while also guiding the conversation in order to keep the lectures going. Very kind and considerate! She may return grades late!
She's a really nice person. Very joyful and always happy during her lectures. I found the course not to be my favourite since I only took it to fill a credit, but if you really enjoy philosophy and theories I highly recommend her.
