Took the course in spring, fastracked 4x/week. First half of class was quick lectures, second half was a lab run by TAs. Lectures were great and engaging, explained everything well. Labs were a bit hectic but good overall. The final assignment was a bit hard but the TAs did a great job helping. Overall I recommend The prof, he's pretty reasonable.
Dr. Rubenson was an amazing POG230 prof. I took this class as an intensive course that lasted 3 weeks in the spring and he made it worthwhile. Something I really appreciated was the fact that he delayed the class start time until 9:30 to accommodate students. In terms of grading, this class was 20% midterm, 30% final, and 50% for labs.
Prof Rubenson is quite good at teaching. He does not offer too many assignments and the ones he does offer are useful. I had him for POG240, which a pretty introductory politics course and so the material was a bit dry. He has a good sense of humour and is sensible enough to offer random bonus grades to people who bother showing up to 8am lectures.
Seems like a really cool dude but was a mid-prof. Very confusing. it did not feel like he wanted to be there half the time. I would often dose out in lectures cause they were very hard to follow. He had slides that were useless with little to nothing on there. Thank god for Bridget my ta or else would've failed.
This is my second class with Rubenson and while he's a great person, I found his teaching here lacklustre compared to the other class. The lectures were confusing as he skipped slides and the exams were also tougher than expected since the content that he gave us to study was different than that on the tests. Also, grading takes a very long time.
Course is easy with not that many things graded. The content is interesting and he teaches the content clearly and concise. The midterm and final are super straightforward and he doesn't do any trick questions. He is a pretty chill prof, but a bit MIA outside of the classroom.
Rubenson is one of the best profs I've had in university. He is very understanding and helpful and he adjusted the course in accordance with student needs where appropriate. As for the course itself, I was nervous at first, since math is not my strong suit, but I came out with a mark in the 90s as it was quite comprehensive when following closely.
This class run during the spring/summer semester was an utter mess. The syllabus was changed midway through the course because the assignments were way too difficult for students' proficiency with R. TA left early in the course. The poorly structured dichotomy between regular lectures and R lectures left everyone incredibly confused.
Anytime I saw he was teaching a class, I enrolled. He is such an amazing prof, made my experience at Ryerson so much better, and his classes were some of the few where I actually enjoyed learning what he was teaching.
Amazing prof! Clear instructions for assignments and overall fair marking. Great lectures that are not heavy, long, or boring. I would recommend Daniel.
