No traditional lectures, the class surrounds a weekly speaker, a quiz like game, and then a group simulation. Some people liked this format, I did not. Group project involves a 30 minute acted out simulation in front of class but was easy. Assignments were mostly audio/podcast based and easy. No midterm and exam was 3 long answer questions.
The format of this class was unusual, but I loved it! Frequent guest speakers from the field + weekly group "simulations" addressing conflicts taken from the week's readings. The textbook is great- really worth buying a hardcopy if you enjoy looking up footnotes! Assignment instructions from the podcast course are sometimes unclear/contradictory.
Spent the majority of the class and assignments on a podcast assignment (with a mandatory $30 course) with no real value or relevance. All the speakers and the podcast host are seemingly his friends. I was excited for this course and was annoyed it felt so pointless and unrelated to what the class should be about. easy though, it could be worse.
Opportunities for extra credit and the guest speakers are interesting, but there are few opportunities to learn anything because the actual course material feels secondary to learning to make a podcast. Multiple lectures were solely dedicated to podcasting and buying his friends podcast course is mandatory which is completely inappropriate imo.
This prof does not teach. He assigns readings and has guest speakers, but I swear I haven't learned anything in this class. We even had to buy a podcast package for this course, and that has nothing to do with what I am trying to learn in this course. I need it for my minor, or else I would drop.
Never answered any emails in four months.
Super laid back prof. He has guest speakers every week and they're hit or miss but most are worth attending for. The acting simulations are very engaging, definitely help with understanding and applying concepts! All the assignments are easy, 5% is a survey. I hated spending money on his friend's podcast course (~20) but worth it for a bird class
Prof. Millward is great! He teaches EUS 202 pretty laid back which is a relief. He marks fair and by his rubrics. The class is intereresting and he values creativity in assignments. Lectures have some of his collegues as guest speakers who are professionals in their ecological fields, super interesting. Assignments and final exam marked in course.
Many 3 hour lectures on podcasting so it's very boring if you're not interested in that. If not about podcasts then there were guest speakers who ran the lecture. Professor Millward didn't teach at all, although there are many opportunities for bonus marks and he gives clear instruction for the assignments which are easy and is an easy marker.
