Way too much work for an elective. 4 exams. endless discussion posts and 1 essay. if you can take another elective. this is way too much work for an open elective course. lowkey worse than CS courses.
To be blunt i would not take him again hes got an unnecessary heavy course load for an introductory course which i was taking as an elective. he provides very little in terms of actual academic insights and expects you to do most of the heavy lifting. very hands off
I really dislikethis guy. I did okay in his class but everything about him irks me. He has no regard for students who carry a proper course load. His discussion posts that only are worth 5 percent of your grade take me more time than most of my IMPORTANT courses. I hope he sleeps well at night knowing he's made my life SIGNIFICANTLY worse.
I took it thinking it would be an easy asynchronous bird course. It isn't difficult, but theres wayyyy too much to write per week for the weekly discussion posts that are mandatory. Look elsewhere for an asynchronous bird course, this ones too much work.
A lot of work, 3 midterms, 1 assignment, a final exam, and weekly participation boards. The tests were very fair and students had multiple attempts to improve their marks. Weekly discussion boards were too much, we were expected to include research, textbook, and module references in multiple discussion posts per week + respond to classmates.
There are many discussion posts, I will admit, but Brent is great honestly! It helps retain the information, and his course is very well structured. If you put in effort, it should be an easy A+ with Brent!
Assigns 4-5 discussion questions a week, very unreasonable for students with full time jobs and other classes. However, he does not seem willing to change.
Absolutely awful. You're required to make 3-5 discussion posts per week that are altogether worth only 10%. Not only this, but he is very picky on how you do them because he even made an announcement stating that he expects you to write each one as if its a report. He clearly does not understand that students work full-time and have other classes.
For an intro class, he assigns way to much work. Weekly discussion posts are long and there are close to 4-5 per week for 12 weeks for only 10% of your grade. Written report is also a lot of work for something that is worth 10%. Tests are easy, just read textbook as it is taken straight from there.
Brent Barr was the kindest and most organized professor i have had in my 4 years at Rye. His outline and expectations are clear from Day 1 and he is ALWAYS available to help... Yes there is a lot of work (modules) but it really helps you retain the knowledge. 4 exams and are all from textbook and lectures.
