He is pretty hard on students when it comes to assignments. Other than that he's a pretty awesome teacher who goes out of his way to write his own criticism for each student to make their assignments better. He even goes to each student individually in class to give back assignments so he can know each student by name.
David was incredibly helpful. I loved his class although the first few assignments weren't exactly explained properly. What I really liked about him was the fact that he was very fair with marks. Even though your broadcast assignment turned out terribly, he would mark very fairly as long as you were honest with him.
David is a good teacher, but he was often unclear with his expectations. For TV Doc, he makes it seem like he expects the world from your documentary, yet even bad ones ended up with a good grade. If you make an effort and do the work (even if your doc turns out to be bad), you'll get an A.
Arrogant. He probably knows what he's talking about, and has the potential to be helpful, but he is so full of himself that he's completly unapproachable. That becomes a real problem when he doesn't clearly express his expectations.
I could never tell what this man was thinking. I'm not sure I liked him but he's a very dedicated teacher. He actually gives constructive criticism in quite a bit of detail, which is a good thing. You can actually hone your craft. He's very encouraging to people who show hard work and talent. But I've heard horror stories about his bluntness.
He's an easy marker, which is where the good ratings come from. Sadly, he's about as interesting as corn flakes. Very, very long and boring classes... to the point of physical illness.
How can you not love this man? He loves cats, he loves broadcast. He loves it. He's abrasive at times, and his news sense is becoming an anachronism of pre-Cynthia Mulligan times (ie, it's boring), but he knows what he is doing and treats people fairly. Plus he walks his burmese cat on a leash.
My impression of his was pretty negative at first. He seemed like such a hard guy to deal with. As the semester went on, I fell in love with this man! No one has more broadcast knowledge than him. I learned so much in his class, and he single-handedly ignited my passion for broadcast. PRAY you have him for broadcasting. Easily in my top 5 profs eve
Actually I disagree. I thought David was very good--he is extremely experienced--you probably won't find anyone in this country with more broadcast experience or knowledge than him. He is new at teaching but was always helpful. He does expect you to work hard and take it seriously. I think he is a nice guy and has always been friendly to me.
Nayman was the worst proff I've ever had. Plain and Simple. Quite possibly the most boring human being on the planet.
