Attendance is only really mandatory in in class participation task weeks, Final project was partially a group project but opting out was possible.
I personally really like her even though she is a hard grader. There are a lot of writing project in this course and she is really focusing on the critical thinking of the students. (Important! You have to have your own idea instead of repeating her lecture)
Seems like a very nice lady. I 100% agree with others saying her lectures are a waste of time. There is way too much rambling about her personal life and interests, lectures often feel rushed and unprepared. I often leave wondering what I even learned and this is a required course. Had her before, wouldn't take her again but I was forced to.
Honestly, just so annoyed this semester is going to be online rather than in person, even though the government has indicated we are allowed to go in person the professor CHOSE and PUSHED to remain online. Very disappointing and it felt like she completely disregarded a lot of students who wanted to be in person, hybrid not considered.
Prof rambles A LOT but was pretty nice overall. My GA for this class was horrible. She was an extremely hard marker and was super biased. She was nice but no help at all in tutorials. I hated this class as I had no prior history or art knowledge so it was quite the challenge.
I personally really enjoyed her lectures because I find Art & History rather fascinating but she does tend to ramble. The lectures are not very engaging so you just sit and listen. Tutorials are where the actual conversation happens. Despite following project guidelines, my marks were average. Always engage with course material in every paper.
Her lectures were just 2 hour rambling sessions featuring some historical pictures. I didn't mind listening to her but I didn't feel like I gained anything from the course. The tutorials were a waste of time (the TAs were great but they didn't have much to build off of). Grading was fine. The course felt self-guided which had it's pros and cons.
Rambles and tangents so she can be very difficult to follow. Uses unnecessary jargon. Project briefs can be a mess - good luck decoding what she actually wants from you. I'm a Dean's List student but her classes pull down my GPA. She is not inspirational to listen to and her courses are painful to get through. I've had her twice. Avoid if you can.
She talks too fast and you would need a dictionary to decipher what she says. Horrible time management, she rushed every lecture and cuts them short in order to accommodate her personal appointments. I would not recommend showing up to class as she reads from the textbook and at least if you stayed home, you could read at your own pace.
You will be able to pass this class without attending the lectures. While she's nice and extremely passionate about Art History, she pretty much reads the text aloud for 3 hours. There's definitely lots of material, but as long as you read and review the text you'll be fine. 2 essays, 2 midterms, 2 finals. Finals are not cumulative which is nice.
