Love his teaching, broke down complex topics with easier to understand metaphors. Great course that def helped a lot with interview prep
I attended lecture EE8219 FPGA Architectures. At TMU, Ye is one of the better Professors. He cares for people, does a good Job at lectures and replies well and respectful on questions. It's not complicated but still not boring. The course focuses more on algorithms and not on FPGA-Architecture. 3 Assignments count 60%, the rest is a take home exam.
Expect to self-teach most of the course. Questions were often left unanswered or addressed superficially, and lab guidance was minimal with outdated tutorials. This course is unfriendly for part-time or working students. If you can't dedicate significant extra time to figure things out independently, avoid this course and instructor.
Does not explain anything. He reuses his notes from previous years and simply rewrites them during lectures, very little explanation as to his train of thought. Also, sample exam solutions do not have explanations either. Just copied from his solution with no explanation, assuming we know everything. Get ready to do a lot of self learning.
Knowledgeable yet unorganized, goes really fast during lectures by writing and speaking at the same time, labs are really hard to complete with the given material as it seems to be outdated, and files in the course shell aren't named properly so it may be hard to find what you're looking for. Lots of self learning and debugging required overall.
Andy Ye is a great prof he actually cares about the students and always answers any questions you have about the topics. The only thing keeping him from 5 stars is his heavy focus on theory and lack of enough practice problems during lectures.
Andy Ye is a G - super knowledgeable about computer chips and fun to learn from. I highly recommend this course if you just finished an internship in the sillicon industry or are interested in going into it. His exams however can be pretty brutal - especially the final. Make sure to practise - his whole course is virtual-friendly!
Most unfair exam I ever wrote. Dude gives no part marks and his reviews are awful. Learn the class by yourself as he's so bad at teaching.
Posts his lectures online but still has many people come and attend them in person. Does a good job in explaining and has a teaching style that is more theory heavy. Make sure to practice questions on your own, however since just in class theory isn't enough. Also Andy is open to answering questions in class and after lectures. Goated prof
Good professor who delivers the content well. Very kind with students. Can sometimes go on tangents in lectures.
