I am the first to admit Dr. Sapra's lectures are dull at best, unbearable at worst. But he cares so deeply for his students and is very passionate about what he does. He will basically tell you, word-for-word, what he expects from an assignment. This makes his essays very simple as long as you attend the lecture. He truly cares about his class.
Dr. Sapra assigned some of the most interesting reading material I have ever read during my tenure in grad school, which was Fall 2023. I am not sure why so many students have scored him so low, and I found his grading to be surprisingly forgiving. Some of the readings could be dense, but they prompted some of the best discussions in each class.
I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. He is really nice and very obviously cares about his students. He is a great Professor, very interesting and engaging. Makes his students feel comfortable and is very kind.
Great and funny professor. In person he seems super chill but when I email him he sounds a bit more professional and honestly, I thought I did something wrong. Other than that, this course is easy if you do the readings and take the time to analyze and understand it. Lastly, avoid chat gpt.
I've taken many of Dr Sapra's courses and imo he's one of the best profs. Yeah he has high standards, but he's genuinely invested in student success and gives detailed feedback. If you don't get the grade you want, just go to office hours and he'll give you clear steps on how to improve. From my experience if you actually do the work you'll do well
Idk why this prof has so many bad reviews. He was so kind and taught us a lot of fun things about Shakespeare. After that class I felt like my idea of the plays and understanding of them had expanded so much. He was a very caring and approachable prof. Really cares about his students. Also really funny and doesn't take himself too seriously!
Lectures are incredibly unorganized, just so scattered and hard to follow. He also just jumps from topic to topic and its very jarring. He is caring and does want to help you, which is a plus, but not ideal in general. Also found his in-class assignments hard, mainly because I found there was insufficient time to complete them
He is the most intellectually honest professor I have ever encountered in my time at university and cares a great deal about his students
Professor Sapra interrupts students while they're speaking and goes off on random tangents that have nothing to do with the course material. His lectures are long and boring AND attendance/participation is mandatory. He's a pretty hard marker and isn't lenient with extensions at all. I would 100% avoid him if you can.
Sapra is really funny and says some wild things, but when it comes to the actual course content, he's not the best. The lecture style is very unorganized and it's hard to follow along because he changes topics so quickly. He would go over assignment instructions in every single class leading up to the due date, and every time they would change.
