I would def take another class with Professor Bulgutch. Lectures are 3 hours long, but they're very engaging. He's passionate about what he does. The course consists of short weekly quizzes on the lecture topics, weekly discussion posts, one fairly small group assignment and 2 very small individual assignments at the end of the course.
This class was amazing! Mark is such a good prof! No exam or textbook, just keep up with the news and you should be good.. Lectures were really great and you learn a lot from them. Group discus. posts and tiny quizzes every week based on lectures, 2 small weighted assignments. Good if you have other classes with more work- a good balance course.
One of the best profs I've ever had. He clearly loves journalism which makes his class much more enjoyable. Show up to class, listen, participate and you'll get a really good mark. Highly recommend.
No exam from him. I like how the coursework is divided. . Although I disagree with him a lot he's super chill and a nice guy.
Absolutely hated this prof and this class. If you have your TA mark you, you will do well, although if he grades you, expect 20% lower than you deserve. Upon giving my work to many different profs and old teacher after the astonishment I had after receiving some of my marks, they laughed. This prof is not fair and does not give second chances
Prof Bulgutch's record in media should speak for itself but here I am anonymously rating him anyways. I really enjoyed my time with him through and through, even some of the graphic news stories he'd show in class. Definitely need to keep up with weekly mini-assignments but if you are even a decent student you should be able to succeed no problem.
Really liked mark's vibe and I liked how the class was very conversational and the TA's were great too. There were about 3 easy assignments that had to be done each week. The feedback on assignments wasn't very helpful but it's easy to get 90's or above on everything. I'm not a fan of journalism but he made the content interesting with his humour.
Professor Bulgutch is an extremely experienced journalist, and clearly knows a ton about his field. However, he expects his students to have the same amount of journalism experience as him, and marks as if you have decades of experience in the field. But with that being said, he gives a lot of easy marks so its your choice.
Everything in the course requires listening to lectures. Bulgutch encourages you to speak your mind in class and is willing to discuss it with you. For students whose first language is not English, each class may be like a 3-hour listening test, but other than that the class is great, it will not make me feel as rigid as other courses.
You either hate him or love him. if you're curious about journalism and want to understand that world you're going to love him. He teaches what he has learnt from his experience. you'll have to be a good listener. Very interesting lectures, despite being through zoom because i enjoyed learning about journalism. GPA booster, Easy A.
