the group projects are fun, but I found it easier to just learn the content myself from her notes
A dreadful experience. Waste of time and money. She doesn't care about teaching at all. Did not learn a thing. The project was pointless but after several mental breakdowns it was over. Her notes are basically a failed novel; redundant, confusing and impossible to finish. The course was tolerable because of the awesome T.A.
Assignments mandated participation with at least 30 students which caused major inconveniences as we had to fit each other in our personal schedules. If you have a part time job, you might have to call in sick for 3 weeks. The textbook could have been condensed into one third of what it is. Still learned a lot nonetheless, very informative course.
One of the most important classes you will take in OHS. Everything you need to succeed is provided to you, but YOU have to do real work as nothing will be handed to you in this profs classes. You will have to apply a lot of the knowledge you have been taught in other OHS courses here, but if you follow the rubrics you will get a great mark.
Professor Woodcock is a poor educator. She relies on group discussion and work without actually providing any instruction or topics that can be used to build discussion. She does not respond well to constructive criticism, or support questions. Many of her courses offer online alternatives. These are also not great, but substantially better.
No lecture, no online readings, but required to do lots of group projects and individual assignment.
Absolutely the worst. Assignment guides and rubrics are clear as mud. Oh yes, they're also weighted heavily.
Hard prof, but great prof. She's accessible to answer questions, clear with her explanations, and after you finish hating your life cause her class is hard and requires a lot of work, you will realize how much you learned. She teaches based on the science of learning. Application, practice, and no laptops ('). But you will learn!
OHS323 should be split into two separate courses. Warning: Be prepared to commit an avg entire semester's worth of readings into the first 6 weeks of class. Then 1 midterm with short answers and MC. After that, it's all group work and individual assignments. It's an unrealistic school/life/work balance. However, she is extremely knowledgeable!
Very knowledgeable but a difficult professor who should not be teaching anything anywhere. She is too fussy about how she wants her assignments to be completed. Her simulated investigations assignment is very demanding in energy, time, and effort.
