I went into this class already being very skilled with photoshop and the way he taught in lectures was very slow passed to the point where you could watch a basics YouTube video and learn more quicker. The assignments were very opinion based when grading, clearly not based off of the work or skill.
I've had Alex for a few courses now, including graphic design. If you want to do well, all you have to do is show up to class and have your weekly assignments done (he pays close attention to those things). What I love about him is that he encourages you to be creative and explore your own personal styles. Only con is he can ramble on for a while.
In-class critiques weekly. Make sure you always submit work for those! He is helpful but can be harsh. Lots of assignments, but none are difficult. Creativity is important! Loves originality. Two critiques per assignment, with final submissions at the end of the year. Hard to know your grade in the class.
Man talks too much. Old dinosaur cant keep up with them times
I've had Alex twice now and he's been great! His classes are easy and I like the content but you do have to stay on top of your work. He does weekly one on one meetings which go toward a participation mark and he gives really good feedback and is always willing to help. Overall he's a pretty chill and understanding guy.
He expects you to show up to one on one meetings every week which are for marks, which are ALSO not during class time and are conveniently on the days you are not available. He also gives very confusing directions and gets frustrated at you for not understanding.
Very pretentious and we had to meet him after class every week which was very annoying.
Alex was an amazing prof, he was easy to talk to and gave very useful feedback. He is very understanding of various levels of creativity and provided extra tutorials if help was needed. Definitely would take one of his classes again!
Really nice guy but he can talk over you or anyone commenting during critiques. Most of the projects are really fun but they can sometimes be a little much. Make sure you actually show up to class because he marks you down as "here" when you submit whatever work was due that week on his own USB.
